K-Pop Star Kwak Youngkwang Advances to Semifinals

Singer Kwak Young-kwang has secured his spot in the semifinals on the 9th episode of MBN's 'Rookie Legend - The Ranking War of Trot Men' (hereafter 'Rookie Legend'). He captivated viewers with a performance that spanned romantic sentiment and powerful charisma.

In the third round of the main competition, the 'National Song Battle,' Kwak Young-kwang led the team 'Glory of the Unknown,' comprised entirely of rookie artists, as their leader. Alongside Han Ga-rak, Ji Young-il, and Marcus Kang, he anchored the team and presented a medley of Jeon Young-rok's hit songs. They perfectly executed everything from the grand harmonies of 'Is It Still a Dark Night?' to the poignant emotions of 'Paper Crane.' The original artist, Jeon Young-rok, praised the performance, saying, "I am deeply moved."

Kwak Young-kwang's true talent shone particularly in the second round, the 'Top Ace Battle.' He demonstrated his dedication by analyzing over 200 songs to find the one that best suited him. He chose Kim Ji-ae's 'Cruel Person' and commanded the stage with playful charm and a couple's dance. Although his entire team did not pass, Kwak Young-kwang's undeniable skill was recognized, and he earned a ticket to the semifinals as a wildcard qualifier.

Kim Gwang-gyu highly praised Kwak Young-kwang's performance, stating, "It was a stage that evoked memories of my school days and military service." Original artist Jeon Young-rok also expressed his praise, saying, "I am deeply moved by the juniors' remakes." While the 'Glory of the Unknown' team did not get to celebrate all members passing, Kwak Young-kwang advanced to the semifinals, recognized for his skill and earnestness.
