K-Drama Star Kang Mina Transforms for Netflix

Actress Kang Mina will showcase a new acting transformation in "Gwirigo," Netflix's first Korean Young Adult (YA) horror series. Kang Mina is set to meet viewers in "​Gwirigo," which will be released on the 24th, playing the role of Im Nari.

Nari, portrayed by Kang Mina, is a character who grew up in a wealthy environment and garners attention for her glamorous appearance, rivaling that of an idol. Furthermore, she is a character who doesn't believe in the curse of the mysterious app "Gwirigo," which grants wishes when one writes their fortune and name. She is expected to display a range of emotions amidst the chaotic situations caused by the app.

Kang Mina previously ventured into horror in the "Convenience Store" episode of the seezn original omnibus "Midnight Horror: Six Nights" in 2022. At the time, she heightened the tension with her terrified expressions and delicate acting skills in extreme situations. In this new series, "Gwirigo," she is expected to present her accumulated acting know-how and deepened emotional lines.

At the "Gwirigo" highlight screening and press conference held on the 21st, Kang Mina introduced her character, saying, "Nari is a character with strong possessiveness; if she wants something, she has to have it." She also attempted an external transformation by changing her short hair, which she had maintained for several years, to long, straight hair to prepare for the role. Although she normally doesn't watch horror films, she revealed that she continuously watched horror movies during the filming period to build her courage.

"Gwirigo" is Netflix's first Korean YA horror series, starring Kang Mina, along with Jeon So-young, Baek Sun-ho, Hyun Woo-seok, and Lee Hyo-je. The story depicts high school students who are suddenly foretold of their deaths due to the curse of the wish-granting app "Gwirigo" and their desperate struggle to escape the curse. It is scheduled to be released on Netflix on the 24th.
