Jang Da-ah Lands Lead Role in 'Cherry Boy' After 'Salmokji' Success

Actress Jang Da-ah has been cast as the lead in the film 'Cherry Boy'. 'Cherry Boy' is a youth melodrama romantic comedy set in a high school environment, and is scheduled to begin filming soon, with a full script reading next week. Jang Da-ah will play the role of 'Jeong-suk' in the movie.

Jang Da-ah, the older sister of Jang Won-young of Ive, debuted in the 2024 drama 'Pyramid Game' and subsequently appeared in 'My Dearest Star'. She recently made her screen debut in the film 'Salmokji', which has surpassed 1 million viewers, playing Se-jeong, the youngest PD running a horror YouTube channel. Despite being a rookie, she is gaining attention as a 'blue chip' for showcasing a wide acting spectrum.

The film 'Cherry Boy' will be directed by Park Hyun-cheol, who was an assistant director on 'Snowpiercer'. In addition to Jang Da-ah, Kim Mu-jun and Lee Jae-in have also confirmed their appearances.

Meanwhile, the horror film 'Salmokji' is a box office hit, surpassing 1 million viewers in just 10 days of its release. The movie tells the story of a production crew who visits 'Salmokji', a reservoir with persistent eerie rumors, for road view filming and experiences mysterious events. Kim Hye-yoon plays the lead role of 'Su-in', and Lee Jong-won, Kim Jun-han, Kim Young-sung, Oh Dong-min, Yoon Jae-chan, and Jang Da-ah also star. 'Salmokji' topped the box office upon its release and is continuing its long-term success through word-of-mouth. It is also showing strength in ticket reservations, ranking first.

Along with the success of 'Salmokji', attention is also being drawn to the film's 'sound'. Sound director Kim Young-ho stated that he focused on making the space 'believable' rather than simply using startling effects. He explained that to maximize the horror, he first made the audience feel the reality of the space before the sound effects were properly implemented.
